Everglades Alligator Farm in Homestead is turning its nighttime airboat rides and reptile pens into a haunted attraction this fall, unveiling a one-night, adults-only event called Gatorween: Prison Break. The experience is set for Saturday, October 17, and blends live alligator and snake encounters with a guided horror tour built around an escape storyline.
According to everglades.com, the event is restricted to guests 18 and older, with limited capacity for the single night. The venue describes the night as featuring supervised alligator and snake interactions, plus a roughly 30-minute nighttime airboat ride included with admission. Guests can also expect themed scenes, immersive environments, live actors, fog effects and what the venue calls “unexpected moments along the way,” with the full experience — animal encounters through the guided tour — running approximately 80 to 90 minutes.

Ticket pricing is where accounts diverge. The venue's own site lists early-bird admission at $50 per person through September 20, moving to $65 general admission starting September 21. But Miami New Times reported the cost as $60, or $50 for early birds — a discrepancy between the two accounts that has not been reconciled.
The venue is emphatic that Gatorween isn't meant to be mistaken for a conventional haunted house. Asked directly on its own site whether the event qualifies as one, the farm answers: “No. Gatorween is a unique Everglades horror experience combining wildlife, airboats, and immersive Halloween entertainment,” according to everglades.com.

Facebook posts from both Everglades Alligator Farm and Secret Miami have been promoting the event ahead of its single-night run.
The farm's own Facebook page describes the night as an experience where the venue “transforms after dark for Gatorween: Prison Break, an exclusive adults-only Halloween experience,” while a Secret Miami Facebook post similarly bills it as an adults-only night unlike anything else in South Florida. Neither post offers engagement figures or additional detail beyond the promotional framing.
The premise — a jailbreak storyline staged at an alligator farm roughly 40 minutes from Krome Detention Center — has invited comparisons given the facility's location, though the dossier evidence does not independently establish whether the concept was inspired by any specific detention facility or its recent coverage. Everglades Alligator Farm has not returned Miami New Times calls, voicemail or email seeking comment on the concept behind the event.
For now, what's confirmed is straightforward: a single night of gator-and-snake-adjacent horror theater, an airboat ride through the dark, and a guided tour built around scares rather than scripture.
