A five-story, red-brick apartment building with 19 units and zero parking spaces is headed for 665 West Sheridan Road in Lake View East, near the intersection with North Pine Grove Avenue. The project will replace a large single-family home on the site, which sits close to Lincoln Park, and construction is expected to begin in October and run through December 2027.
The Chicago Plan Commission approved plans for the development under the Lakefront Protection Ordinance, according to Chicago YIMBY. The outlet reports the building will rise five stories to roughly 65 feet, wrapped in a red-brick-clad exterior, and is being led by a local developer operating under an LLC. Hanna Architects designed the building, per the same report.
Unit Mix and Ground-Floor Layout
Of the 19 planned residential units, 17 will be two-bedroom layouts and two will be three-bedroom layouts, the report notes. The ground floor will hold three residential units along with back-of-house spaces near the building's entry. Every bedroom in the building is designed to have windows, and select units will include private rear balconies.
Residents across the building will also have access to a shared rooftop deck, according to the same account. The amenity mix reflects a design aimed at maximizing livable space within a mid-rise footprint on a site that once held a single-family home.
No Parking, But Room for Bikes
Notably, the building will include no on-site parking for vehicles. In its place, the plans call for 20 stacked bike racks along the rear alley, a car-free approach increasingly common in transit-accessible Chicago neighborhoods. The project is estimated to cost roughly $8.5 million, per the report, with construction expected to run on a 12-to-14-month timeline once it gets underway.
