A 40-foot Carver boat was fully engulfed in flames early Wednesday morning at a dock behind a home on South Tradewinds Avenue in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, and fire officials currently consider the blaze suspicious. No one was hurt, but the boat itself did not survive.
Firefighters responded shortly after 6 a.m. to the dock behind 264 S. Tradewinds Ave., where they found the vessel already fully engulfed, according to local10.com. Crews managed to contain the flames to the affected boat, keeping the fire from spreading to nearby vessels or surrounding property. The fire was confined to the boat.
No Injuries, But Fire Marshal Digging Into the Cause
No civilians or firefighters were injured in the incident, per the same account from local10.com. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue currently considers the fire suspicious, and the Pompano Beach Fire Marshal is now investigating its origin and cause. No further details on what sparked the flames or who owns the boat have been released.
The Carver boat was fully engulfed as crews worked to contain the fire before it spread to boats docked nearby.
A Separate Dockside Fire in the Area
NBC Miami reported in June 2025 that a 50-foot sailboat caught fire while docked behind a home on Whale Harbor Lane in Fort Lauderdale, according to nbcmiami.com. No one was aboard that sailboat and there were no injuries, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials said, and firefighters were able to quickly get the flames under control. As with the Tradewinds Avenue fire, the cause of that blaze remains under investigation.
Boat fires along Broward County's waterways carry real stakes beyond property loss. A separate boat explosion and dock fire at a Fort Lauderdale marina left one person dead and five hospitalized, according to abc7news.com. Officials there said a primary boat fire had spread to a second nearby vessel, and three of the hospitalized people suffered traumatic injuries. The victim in that fire was identified as 41-year-old Sebastien Gauthier of Quebec, Canada, with an investigation into the cause still underway.
For now, the cause of Wednesday's fire in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea remains unknown while the fire marshal's investigation continues. Fire officials have not released additional information about the boat's owner or what led them to consider the blaze suspicious.
