A 25-year-old woman was wounded Monday night while driving in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood, according to Chicago police. Police said a person on foot fired multiple shots at her vehicle in the 2500 block of South Ridgeway Avenue at about 9:10 p.m., striking her in the buttock. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is listed in good condition.
As reported by CBS Chicago, no arrests have been made and Area Four detectives are investigating the shooting.
A Neighborhood Leaning on Its Trauma Center
Mount Sinai Hospital operates a Level 1 Trauma Center and serves as a safety-net hospital for gunshot victims, according to Sinai Health System.
Little Village is a Chicago neighborhood.
Historical Neighborhood Context
A Chicago Department of Community Development market profile reported that South Lawndale had a total population of 96,815 in 2009.
The same profile listed the area's 2009 median household income as $40,149. Those figures provide historical context about the neighborhood's size and economic conditions, but they do not by themselves establish the causes of violence or measure residents' access to emergency care.
A Separate Shooting Involving a Vehicle
The shooting follows another reported vehicle-related attack in Little Village. On September 17, a 23-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were shot while sitting in a car near South Western Avenue after someone in a dark SUV opened fire, according to previous Hoodline reporting.
As reported by WTTW News, Chicago Police Department data showed 289 homicides and 1,264 shooting victims through August 2026, a figure representing roughly a 1% decrease in shooting victims compared to the same period in 2025.
Investigation Continues
If Area Four detectives identify and arrest a suspect, criminal charges could follow, though for now the case remains open, with no arrests and no named suspect.
