Federal agents arrested a Malden man early Tuesday morning on charges of sexually exploiting a child and distributing and receiving child pornography, following an ongoing investigation that reportedly began in Michigan. Anthony Lamont Fowlkes, who worked for AlphaBEST, was taken into custody around 6 a.m. and now faces detention pending a federal trial.
Arrest Followed Michigan-Based Investigation
According to a federal police affidavit reported by Boston 25 News, Fowlkes allegedly communicated with two underage teenage girls living in Michigan, received sexually explicit photos from them, sent explicit images of himself, and threatened to distribute the pictures if the teens stopped communicating with him. Fowlkes was arrested at his Malden home on federal charges including sexual exploitation of a child and distribution and receipt of child pornography, per the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, and a federal search warrant was also served at his residence.
The operation was led by Homeland Security Investigations offices in New England and Detroit, with local assistance from the Malden Police Department, according to Patch. The federal warrant against Fowlkes was issued out of Detroit, according to Malden Public Schools Superintendent Timothy Sippel, who confirmed local police assisted in the arrest and search.
A Trail of Youth-Facing Roles Across Malden
Fowlkes held a role with a private vendor serving Malden youth programs.
By the time of his arrest, Fowlkes was employed by AlphaBEST, a private vendor for before- and after-school enrichment programming in Malden. AlphaBEST terminated Fowlkes, Superintendent Sippel said, and the district confirmed he no longer has access to any Malden public school facilities.
District Says No Sign Malden Students Involved
Sippel stated that the district has no indication the federal charges involve Malden students or facilities, while committing to full cooperation with authorities and emphasizing that student safety remains the district's top priority. The superintendent's comments, delivered the day of the arrest, were aimed at reassuring parents after news of Fowlkes' multiple roles inside Malden schools and recreation programs began circulating.
This is not the first time in 2026 that a Malden Public Schools staffing matter has drawn scrutiny.
