The crash prompted detours, and officials gave no timetable for when the roadway would reopen.
According to Arizona's Family, officers were called to reports of a pedestrian crash at the intersection and found the man seriously hurt. He was taken to a nearby hospital, and police said the driver stayed at the scene. It was unclear whether impairment was a factor, the station reported.
Shattered Windshield, Scattered Debris at the Scene
Arizona's Family reporters at the scene witnessed a minivan pulled over on the side of the street, its windshield and headlight shattered on the driver's side, surrounded by debris. Police were gathering evidence at the intersection as the investigation continued, per the same report.
The closure prompted detours for drivers in central Phoenix, and drivers were urged to avoid the area entirely. As of the station's report, there was no estimated reopening time for 27th and Campbell avenues.
Other Recent Pedestrian Crashes
Other pedestrian crashes have also been reported in recent weeks, including a fatal pedestrian crash at Palmer Park and Powers in Colorado Springs on August 7, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and police said neither speed nor alcohol were considered factors, as reported by FOX21 News. In New Haven, police confirmed a separate pedestrian strike near Church Street and Chapel Street on September 1, according to WFSB.
