A man was hospitalized after being shot in the foot on Marlow Avenue in Cincinnati's College Hill neighborhood late Wednesday night. He was taken to UC Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening, and police said no suspect information was available at the time.
Details remain limited about what led to the shooting. As reported by WKRC, the male victim was struck in the foot and rushed to UC Medical Center, though authorities have not released suspect information.
UC Medical Center, where the victim was treated, is Greater Cincinnati's only adult Level I Trauma Center. The hospital opened a $221 million emergency department expansion in July 2023 that doubled the size of its shock resuscitation units, according to UC Health.
A Neighborhood With a Difficult Recent History
Wednesday night's shooting adds to a string of gun violence incidents that have unfolded in College Hill over the past two years. In October 2024, 23-year-old Danias Weaver was fatally shot in the 1600 block of Llanfair Avenue, an incident that prompted temporary lockdowns at two nearby schools, as Hoodline previously reported.
Just over a week ago, on August 31, a Hamilton County judge sentenced 33-year-old Dathan Hall to 48 years to life in prison for the November 2024 fatal drive-by shooting of Jason Stewart at a College Hill traffic light, according to WCPO. Hall had previously served time for a 2014 manslaughter conviction, a case Hoodline covered in its report on the sentencing hearing.
Policing Changes and a Citywide Trend
Emergency response in College Hill has looked different since November 2023, when the Cincinnati Police Department closed its District 5 headquarters on Hamilton Avenue, shifting patrol responsibilities for the neighborhood to District 3 as part of a citywide consolidation from five police districts to four, per WVXU. CPD had operated District 5 from a temporary headquarters since 2018.
The shooting also comes despite a broader citywide decline in gun violence. Cincinnati recorded 283 shooting victims in 2025, a 20% drop from the 353 victims in 2024 and 377 in 2023, city officials said, attributing the improvement to targeted violent-crime reduction strategies, according to a report aired by WKRC. Federal crime data compiled by the FBI's Crime Data Explorer showed Cincinnati logged 2,635 violent crimes in 2024, including 1,667 aggravated assaults, in a city of roughly 311,599 residents.
Concerns Ripple Through Surrounding Communities
The city continues to fund the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence, a focused deterrence program created in 2007 that pairs police with social services to target group gun violence, according to CincyInsights. The city expanded the program using federal American Rescue Plan funds. Elsewhere in Cincinnati, Spectrum News 1 reported a shooting near the University of Cincinnati campus.

Following the shooting, Cincinnati police have not released any suspect description for the Marlow Avenue incident. The victim's condition and the circumstances surrounding the gunfire remain under investigation.
