Memphis woke to clear skies and temperatures in the upper 70s Tuesday morning, but the day is headed for dangerous heat. The high is expected to reach 99 degrees, with heat index values as high as 108.
Heat Advisory Runs Through Tuesday Evening
A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday across Shelby County and other parts of the Mid-South. South winds around 5 mph will do little to ease the heat, while mostly sunny skies keep conditions bright and baking.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, use air conditioning when possible and limit strenuous outdoor activity to the early morning or evening. Lightweight clothing, shade and regular breaks will matter as the afternoon heat peaks.
Hot Again Wednesday Before Storm Chances Return
Wednesday will bring another sunny day with a high near 98 degrees and heat index values up to 105. Temperatures ease slightly Thursday, though a few showers and thunderstorms could develop after 1 p.m., with more widespread rain chances arriving Thursday night into Friday.
Friday's high is expected to reach about 94 degrees, followed by weekend highs in the mid-90s. The forecast stays warmer than normal, but it will be a noticeable step down from Tuesday's triple-digit heat.
