Memphis started Sunday clear and around 81 degrees, but the calm morning will quickly give way to dangerous afternoon heat. Temperatures are expected to climb to about 102 degrees, with sunny skies and little chance of rain.
Heat Advisory Runs Through Sunday Evening
A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday as the combination of heat and humidity pushes the heat index to around 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. North-northeast winds will stay light at 0 to 10 mph, offering little relief during the hottest part of the afternoon.
The hottest stretch is expected from early afternoon through roughly 5 p.m., when temperatures hover near 100 to 102 degrees. Rain chances remain below 10%, so outdoor plans are more likely to run into oppressive heat than a cooling downpour.
Monday Brings Brief Relief Before Heat Returns
Monday should be sunny and somewhat less humid, with a high near 96 degrees and an overnight low around 74. The heat builds again Tuesday and Wednesday, when highs are forecast near 98 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives Thursday afternoon, followed by a better chance of storms Thursday night into Friday. Friday's high should ease to around 94 degrees, with additional storm chances continuing into Saturday.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible, avoid prolonged time in direct sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Anyone working or exercising outside should take frequent breaks, and children and pets should never be left in a parked vehicle.
