Águilas de Mexicali and Jaguares de Nayarit met Saturday and Sunday at The Ballpark at America First Square in South Jordan for Béisbol en Salt Lake. The matchup paired a club established in 1976 with Nayarit, founded in Tepic in 2025, according to the event website.
The teams arrived with different amounts of league history. The event website says Mexicali has won the league championship four times and Nayarit reached the playoffs in its inaugural season.
A recurring event, with a different matchup
The South Jordan games followed a prior edition at the same ballpark. Miller Sports + Entertainment described the Oct. 11-12, 2025, Béisbol en Salt Lake as the event’s second annual edition; that year’s exhibition games featured Los Venados de Mazatlan and Los Charros de Jalisco, not Mexicali and Nayarit, according to the organizer’s announcement hosted by MiLB. The announcement did not report attendance.
Miller Sports and Entertainment hosted the celebration for a third year, ABC4 Utah reported, describing it as an event that connects baseball with Hispanic culture and recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month in Utah. The station also reported that activities beyond the games included food, music and cultural performances.
