A man is dead and two women are recovering after a shooting tore through New Orleans's Mid-City neighborhood in the early hours of Monday, according to police. The gunfire broke out around 12:17 a.m. in the 4000 block of Tulane Avenue, leaving three people wounded before officers even arrived on scene.
According to FOX 8, officers arrived to find the male victim at the scene, who was taken for emergency hospital treatment. Two female victims were also shot and wounded at the scene, but rather than wait for an ambulance, they were brought to the hospital by private vehicle, the station reports.
The male victim did not survive. Per NOLA.com, he was transported to a local hospital, where he later died by 2:20 a.m.
Victims' Identities Still Unknown
Police have released almost no information about who was involved. The male victim's identity and age were not immediately disclosed by authorities, and the same is true for the two women, whose ages and conditions have also not been made public, the station's report notes.
Investigators likewise have not said whether they have developed a suspect in the shooting, and no arrests were immediately announced in connection with the case. The circumstances that led to the gunfire on Tulane Avenue were not detailed by authorities, leaving open questions about what sparked the violence.
Not the First Gunfire on This Stretch of Tulane
Monday's shooting is not the first violent incident to hit this corridor of Mid-City. In December, a man was shot at the intersection of South Carrollton Avenue and Tulane Avenue around 8:01 p.m., according to WGNO, which reported that officers located the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds and that the shooting remained under investigation with no update on his condition.
In April 2024, three men showed up at a hospital after being shot in Mid-City, according to WDSU, which reported that police believed that shooting happened on Tulane Avenue near Dupre Street around 1:20 a.m.
For now, Monday's case remains an open investigation, with police yet to identify a suspect or say what led to the gunfire that killed one man and wounded two women in Mid-City.
