Milk Bar plans to end operations at both of its Brooklyn cafes by the end of 2026, owner Kylie Sachs confirmed, according to WhatNow. Sachs said 2026 will be the business’s final operating season.
The closing schedule is still unsettled
The affected locations are the original cafe at 620 Vanderbilt Avenue near Prospect Place and the Park Slope shop at 204 6th Avenue near Union Street. Milk Bar has not set a final service date for either cafe and plans to announce the dates once they are definitive, WhatNow reported.
Both cafes remain open for now, giving customers time to visit before the final closures. Milk Bar has not said what, if anything, will replace the two locations.
How the two cafes developed
Sachs and her partners took over Milk Bar from founder Alex Hall in 2016, according to Brooklyn, NY Patch. The cafes have offered coffee, breakfast and lunch, including avocado toast, salads, sandwiches and other cafe fare described in local coverage.
The Vanderbilt Avenue cafe predates the Park Slope location. The second shop opened in late October in the former 6th Ave Gourmet Deli space, serving brunch, lunch and coffee, according to BKLYNER.
A broader storefront-vacancy backdrop
The available data is boroughwide rather than specific to Vanderbilt Avenue or Sixth Avenue. Brooklyn's storefront vacancy rate was 12.3% as of April 15, 2026, the second-highest among the city's boroughs, according to the Office of the New York City Comptroller. Earlier New York City Council data put Brooklyn's rate at 9.82% in 2021, indicating an increase in the boroughwide rate over that period but not establishing how vacancy changed on either avenue.
