Showers Arrive Before The Main System
Clouds will build Wednesday afternoon, followed by a chance of rain showers after 7 p.m. and an overnight low near 59. Thursday should stay warmer and partly sunny, reaching about 78 degrees, but another round of showers could develop after 1 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
Friday Brings The Week’s Biggest Weather Concern
Friday is expected to be cloudy with rain showers before 1 p.m., followed by showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening. The forecast calls for widespread soaking rain, southeast winds of 10 to 15 knots with gusts up to 30 knots during the day Friday, September 18, 2026, and up to 30 mph Friday night, with several inches of rain possible.
The National Weather Service says broad areas could receive 1 to 2 inches, while a narrower band may pick up 3 to 5 inches or more. The heaviest rain zone remains uncertain, but forecasters say urban flooding could become a concern and flood watches may eventually be needed; this is a substantial escalation from Hoodline’s earlier Friday storm outlook.
Cooler, Unsettled Weather Lingers
Saturday should be generally quieter and drier. Sunday brings another chance for showers with a high near 68, and an unsettled period may continue into early next week.
No watches, warnings or advisories are currently posted for the Minneapolis area, but Friday’s rainfall could complicate commutes, outdoor plans and travel on roads that drain slowly. Residents should keep an eye on later forecasts as forecasters refine the location of the heaviest rain.
