Thick black smoke was pouring off a single-wide trailer at Casa Del Monte Mobile Home Park in West Palm Beach on Friday morning when emergency crews rolled up around 10:15 a.m. and found neighbors had already pulled one person out of the burning unit. That person was rushed to a local trauma center as a trauma alert, and officials say no other injuries were reported.
Crews arrived to a large plume of smoke and a single-wide trailer heavily involved in fire at the park, located at 1581 64th Drive S, according to WPBF 25. By the time firefighters got the blaze knocked down, neighbors had already gotten the victim out of the trailer on their own. The station reported the fire was ultimately extinguished with no other injuries beyond the one person taken to trauma care.
Trauma Alert Points to Standard Regional Protocol
When a patient meets trauma alert criteria in central or northern Palm Beach County, standing protocols direct Palm Beach County Fire Rescue to transport them to St. Mary's Medical Center, the region's designated trauma center. Those same protocols were detailed in Hoodline's prior coverage of a young burn survivor, which also outlined the county's use of two Sikorsky S-76C+ Trauma Hawk air ambulances capable of delivering whole blood transfusions en route to definitive care. It remains unclear whether the Friday patient required aeromedical transport or was taken by ground ambulance.
The condition of the person injured in Friday's fire has not been detailed, and it is not known whether working smoke alarms were present inside the trailer at the time of the blaze.
A Park With a Troubled Fire History
This is not the first time flames have torn through a residence at Casa Del Monte. In February, a fire damaged a home on 14th Street and affected six people, according to a report reviewed via WPBF 25's Facebook page. In January 2024, another fire destroyed a mobile home in the 1500 block of 60th Terrace South within the same park, and back in October 2019, emergency crews responded to a fatal mobile home fire at Casa Del Monte, as documented by Liveuamap.
Casa Del Monte is a large community, spanning 657 mobile home sites and operating under a Florida Department of Health permit, per the Mobile Home Park Directory. County code enforcement agendas also show that Casa Del Monte MHP LLC has previously been brought before magistrates over property maintenance code violations, according to county records.
Why Older Mobile Homes Burn Faster
Fire safety researchers point to the age of manufactured housing as a key factor in how quickly and dangerously these fires unfold. Research from the National Fire Protection Association shows manufactured homes built after federal HUD construction standards took effect in 1976 have fire fatality rates comparable to traditional stick-built homes, while older pre-1976 units carry significantly higher fire risk. Whether the trailer involved in Friday's fire predates those standards has not been reported.
The stakes of that gap in construction-era safety are magnified by Florida's sheer scale of manufactured housing. More than 800,000 Florida residents lived in manufactured structures as of 2023, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management, making the state the largest manufactured-home population in the country. Nationally, home structure fires accounted for 70% of civilian fire deaths and 74% of civilian fire injuries between 2019 and 2023, per NFPA statistics.
Friday's fire adds to a string of recent West Palm Beach residential blazes that Hoodline has covered, including a February fire that destroyed historic shotgun houses and injured a firefighter. No further details on the trauma alert patient's condition or the cause of Friday's fire had been released as of publication.
