A 24-year-old New Jersey woman was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center early Wednesday morning on a count of second-degree murder, more than five months after a fatal stabbing on a quiet Mid-City block left a 27-year-old man dead. Lisbeth Ardeano is accused of stabbing Ilder Vasquez-Miranda in the chest.
According to NOLA.com, police responded to the stabbing in the 3200 block of Iberville Street, where Vasquez-Miranda was found unresponsive and later died at a hospital. Crime logs from the Mid-City Security District and reporting by WWL-TV place the call at approximately 10:28 p.m. on April 21. The district log says the crime occurred inside the residence and Vasquez-Miranda was found outside, and describes a knife wound to the chest.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office confirmed Vasquez-Miranda's identity, according to NOLA.com. His bond hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court, per the same account.

Family Sought to Send Vasquez-Miranda Home to Guatemala
A GoFundMe fundraiser organized by Vasquez-Miranda's family in April described him as a father of three young children and sought donations to cover the cost of repatriating his remains to his native Guatemala. The appeal underscored the personal toll of a killing that left three kids without their father and a family scrambling to bring him home.
If convicted of second-degree murder, Ardeano faces life in prison, NOLA.com reported.
A Block With a Troubled Recent History
This is not the first violent crime NOPD has investigated on the 3200 block of Iberville Street. WWL-TV reported that in October 2024, officers responding to reports of a foul odor discovered a man's decomposed body bearing a gunshot wound in the same stretch of Mid-City.
Hoodline has previously reported on other violent incidents in the neighborhood, including a woman found slain on a nearby Banks Street block in July.
Case Comes Amid a Historic Citywide Drop in Homicides
The Iberville Street case unfolds against a backdrop of falling violence citywide. Official statistics released by the New Orleans Police Department in September showed the city recorded 22 homicides from May through August 2026, a 46% decline from the 41 recorded during the same stretch in 2025 and the lowest four-month summer total in at least seven years.
A Hoodline report said New Orleans had logged 38 murders through June 25, a midyear count among the lowest in decades. Even so, Mid-City's recent string of violent incidents continues to draw close attention from neighborhood residents and the security district that patrols the area.
