A mother and her 18-year-old son are dead after a shooting inside a North Olmsted home Saturday afternoon, and police have arrested the woman's husband, who is also the boy's father, in connection with the killings. Officers responding to the 3800 block of Evelyn Drive found the teenager lying outside the front of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds; he later died after being rushed to a local hospital.
According to News 5 Cleveland, a neighbor called 911 just after 2 p.m. to report that a man had shot his family. Responding officers found the 42-year-old woman dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, while first responders treated her 18-year-old son before an ambulance transported him to the hospital, where he later died. As reported by WKYC, officers recovered a handgun at the home and arrested the 44-year-old suspect without incident, while firefighters and police from neighboring communities responded to assist North Olmsted first responders.
The 44-year-old man taken into custody is the husband and father of the two victims, per the News 5 Cleveland report, and he was booked into the North Olmsted city jail. Investigators described the shooting as an isolated family incident, and detectives said they would release more information as the investigation continues.
Two Fatal Shootings in Two Weeks
The Evelyn Drive shooting followed a September 16 fatal shooting on Lucydale Avenue in which a man was killed during an altercation inside a home, a case Hoodline previously covered in a report on that fatal altercation. A person of interest was taken into custody in that case.
Two weeks before that, on September 5, North Olmsted police investigated a separate shooting on Stearns Road near Interstate 480, where a driver fired at least five shots into an occupied home following an argument. No injuries were reported in that incident, which Hoodline detailed in coverage of the drive-by shooting into a home. The cluster of shootings follows a January fatal shooting connected to an armed armored-truck robbery and hostage standoff; a Lorain County grand jury cleared an officer in August.
What Charges Could Follow
Hammodi Ahmed Ali Al Naser had been charged with two counts of aggravated murder. Under Ohio Revised Code Section 2903.01, aggravated murder is defined as purposely causing the death of another with prior calculation and design, and it carries penalties ranging from life imprisonment to the death penalty.
Cuyahoga County also operates a High-Risk Domestic Violence Court docket, established in November 2020 to handle intimate partner felony cases involving firearms or strangulation in an effort to prevent lethal outcomes. North Olmsted police investigate domestic-violence incidents.
A Broader Pattern of Intimate Partner Violence
The Journey Center for Safety and Healing is a stakeholder in domestic-violence efforts. The North Olmsted Police Department is led by Chief Robert Wagner.
Detectives said they are continuing to investigate the Evelyn Drive shooting and will release more information as it becomes available.
