A man is dead and another was hospitalized after gunfire broke out early Sunday morning in the 3200 block of Northwest 37th Street in Lauderdale Lakes, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. Deputies located an adult male gunshot victim who was transported to a hospital by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, while a second man who suffered gunshot wounds made his own way to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
According to WSVN 7News, Broward Sheriff's Office investigators detained one person at the scene and brought in K-9 units to help search the surrounding area for evidence. As of Sunday, the identities of both men involved had not been released, and the detained man was taken for questioning, per Local 10 News.
Local 10 News described deputies escorting a man in handcuffs who had suffered a hand injury toward an ambulance before driving him away in a cruiser for questioning. A nearby resident told the station she heard gunfire from inside her home, and another unnamed resident reported that two people had been shot. Investigators asked residents in the area to wait outside their homes while the scene remained active.
A Neighborhood With a Troubled Recent History
Sunday's shooting adds to a string of firearm incidents that have unsettled the small Broward County municipality in recent years. Lauderdale Lakes saw two separate shootings within 24 hours in October 2025; a second reported shooting sent a man to a local hospital, as shown in footage reviewed on YouTube.
Further back, in May 2024, a 16-year-old boy was killed and a 15-year-old was injured in an ambush shooting outside an apartment building on Northwest 30th Terrace in Lauderdale Lakes, according to CBS Miami. Witnesses at the time reported hearing rapid gunfire before finding the young victims.
Lauderdale Lakes spans 3.64 square miles and has a population of 35,954 residents recorded in the 2020 U.S. Census. DataUSA's 2024 figures show that 48.7% of residents were born outside the United States, and approximately 81% identify as Black or African American.

For now, investigators have not disclosed the identities of either man involved, and the circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation.
