One person is dead and two others are hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Crowder Boulevard in New Orleans East. The crash was reported to police at approximately 7:04 p.m., according to the police report, and left one occupant of a vehicle dead at the scene.
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the collision, which also sent two other people to a local hospital for treatment, according to WDSU. As of the station's report, NOPD said it had no further information to release, and the investigation remains ongoing.
In the Danziger Bridge case, the deceased person's identity was released after an autopsy and next-of-kin notification.

Chef Menteur Highway, also known as U.S. Route 90, runs through New Orleans East as a five-lane commercial corridor with a center lane used for left turns, carrying heavy commuter and commercial truck traffic across major intersections including Crowder Boulevard and Read Boulevard, according to Branch Law. The firm describes the configuration as creating dangerous conditions and says T-bone collisions are common and often severe.
Fatalities Down Citywide, But Corridor Remains a Hot Spot
The crash comes even as citywide numbers show improvement. According to NOPD News, traffic fatalities across New Orleans dropped 21% and overall crashes fell 7% year-to-date through July 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.
