A man was shot in the leg Sunday evening near Northwest 15th Avenue and 68th Street in Liberty City. Police allege Micah Lendale Tilley, 33, of Opa-locka, was involved. He was charged with attempted second-degree murder and criminal solicitation and held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, the Miami Herald reported.
According to the police affidavit, the victim got out of a blue Ford Fiesta holding a gun. Police allege Tilley fired a handgun at him, retrieved a rifle from a Subaru and fired again while following him. Officers responding shortly after 5 p.m. found the victim with a gunshot wound to his leg, the newspaper reported.
The affidavit says Tilley approached an officer at the scene and told police he had acted in self-defense. Those statements and the shooting account are allegations; the charges are not a finding of guilt.
Neighborhood data and support services
WLRN, reporting on a Scaling Safety analysis of local medical examiner data, said ZIP code 33147—which includes a swath of Liberty City—recorded five homicides in 2024, down from 31 in 2020. These are area-wide homicide counts, not measures of firearm assaults or nonfatal shooting injuries, and they do not explain this incident.
For broader victim-support context, Miami-Dade County says its Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program, in partnership with Jackson Health System’s Ryder Trauma Center, offers victims of gun violence safety planning, supportive services and trauma-informed care after hospital discharge. The county program description outlines those services generally.
