According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of shots fired outside the residence, and the office later described the incident as domestic-related and involving an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators said the shots were reportedly fired outside the home, though the sheriff's office has not detailed how many rounds were fired or identified any weapon involved.
Heavy Law Enforcement Presence Descends on the Scene
Road patrol deputies, detectives, the SWAT team and a hostage negotiation team were all called to the scene to work toward safely resolving the standoff, per the sheriff's office. Residents and drivers were asked to avoid the area near Southwest Bessey Creek Trail and Murphy Road until further notice while the operation unfolded.
The sheriff's office said the armed person was no longer barricaded inside the residence, and its SWAT team ultimately resolved the barricaded-subject situation. The agency has said it will update the public as more information becomes available, though it has not released the identity of the person involved, confirmed whether anyone was injured, or said whether the individual was arrested or charged in connection with Saturday's incident.
Second Palm City Gunfire Case in Months
Saturday's standoff is not the only recent case in Palm City involving gunfire and an aggravated-assault charge. In May, a road-rage confrontation escalated into gunfire and a crash along Southwest Martin Downs Boulevard and nearby roadways, according to cbs12.com.
That confrontation, which occurred on May 5, involved William Dinardo Jr. and Dashon Henderson, according to wqcs.org. CBS12 reported that Dinardo swerved toward Henderson's car and attempted to block Henderson from passing. Henderson was ultimately charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, while Dinardo was charged with the same offense for allegedly using his vehicle as a weapon to threaten Henderson, the outlet reported.
The Saturday domestic-related standoff and the May road-rage case were two Palm City incidents.
