A 25-year-old Tavernier man already listed on Florida's sex offender registry is facing a dozen felony counts after state investigators say they found child sexual abuse material on devices seized from his home. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Saylor DiMartino on Sept. 15 and booked him into the Monroe County Jail, capping an investigation that had quietly stretched on for years.
According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, DiMartino was arrested on 12 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, and the agency confirms he is a registered sexual offender. FDLE says the case traces back to August 2023, when agents received a cybertip alleging that a social-networking user was downloading and sharing CSAM files across Snapchat, Discord and Kik. Investigators identified that user as DiMartino.
Sources differ on exactly which organization forwarded that initial tip. FDLE states the cybertip came from the National Center for Missing and Endangered Children, while WSVN reports it originated from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Search Warrant Led to Seized Devices
On Oct. 3, 2023, the FDLE Special Operations Team executed a search warrant at DiMartino's Tavernier residence, seizing several electronic devices for forensic review. That analysis, per FDLE, identified multiple files containing child sexual abuse material on the devices. Despite that early discovery, DiMartino was not taken into custody until nearly three years later.
The Miami Herald highlighted that lengthy gap between the 2023 search and the September arrest, framing it as three years passing between when agents say they seized devices with child pornography on them and when DiMartino was finally taken into custody. The newspaper's reporting does not offer an explanation for the delay.
Prosecution and Custody Status
FDLE says the Attorney General's Office of Statewide Prosecution is now handling the case, and the agency describes the investigation as still active. DiMartino was transported to the Monroe County Jail following his arrest.
FDLE has tied the case to a broader statewide push, describing the arrest as the result of an initiative aimed at locating and arresting people who target children and share files depicting their sexual abuse. The agency has not detailed how many other arrests have stemmed from that same effort.
No additional details about DiMartino's current legal representation or the next steps in the prosecution have been made public. Given that the case remains active, further developments could still emerge from either FDLE or the Attorney General's Office of Statewide Prosecution as it proceeds.
