The Orchestra San Antonio was formally established in April 2024 as a rebranded performance ensemble under the Classical Music Institute, which was originally founded in 2014 primarily as an educational non-profit, according to the San Antonio Report. The organization stepped into a significant civic gap when it assumed the role of resident orchestra for both Opera San Antonio and Ballet San Antonio following the June 2022 dissolution of the former San Antonio Symphony, the outlet reported.
TOSA's leadership includes Paul Montalvo and Leonardo Pineda, and the ensemble has a core group of 60 musicians, about 10 of whom reside in San Antonio, with the remainder traveling from around the United States and Latin America, per the same report.
