The Underline, a 10-mile linear park whose cultural programming has included reggaeton, perreo, and dancehall, will host Tumbao’s fifth-anniversary celebration. The park is also scheduled to host 10 free concerts this year through the Levitt BLOC Miami Music Series, according to Miami New Times.
The park opened in phases
By 2025, Miami-Dade County records documented public openings for Phase 1, the Brickell Backyard, on Feb. 26, 2021, and for Phase 2, a 2.14-mile segment connecting SW 13 St. to SW 19 Ave., on April 24, 2024. The county’s records do not give a cumulative mileage total for the park in these opening notices. See Miami-Dade County’s Phase 1 information and its Phase 2 announcement.
Event schedule and lineup
Tumbao’s event is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at The Underline on SW 1st Avenue in Brickell, from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., followed by an afterparty at Blackbird, Miami New Times reports. Adidas, Buchanan’s, and Red Bull are sponsoring the celebration. Adidas will provide custom Tumbao jerseys to the first 80 guests, with on-site customization, the outlet reports.
Miami New Times names Bianca Oblivion, Bozito, Lupreme, and founder Albert Piedrahita, along with Dos Flakos and Guari performing as Mundo Soundsystem. The Miami & Beaches event listing also names Gio Sandz and lists paired sets by Lupreme and V1FRO, Bellamar and Jay Cruz, and Gabo Escalona and Grue5ome. It describes a production bringing artists from Miami, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.
Food and on-site activities
Tacos & Tattoos will return as a food vendor, joined by a Jon & Vinny’s pizza pop-up. Tattooing and anniversary-jersey customization are also planned, according to Miami New Times. The Miami & Beaches listing says Blackbird Ordinary will serve drinks and Buchanan’s will provide a lounge-style activation.
About the collective
Albert Piedrahita, Marta Castellanos, and RC Marroquin founded Tumbao. In an account published by Modern Luxury, Piedrahita described the founders’ aim as offering a different approach to Miami’s Latin-music nightlife. The collective’s programming includes reggaeton, perreo, baile funk, dancehall, house, and jersey club, and it has not charged a cover, according to Miami New Times.
