Tyler Herro is fighting a custody battle with his ex-girlfriend, fitness model Katya Henry, just months after the Miami Heat guard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. The 26-year-old and Henry share two young children, daughter Zya, born in 2021, and son Harlem, born in 2023, and the case remains ongoing as both sides ask a judge to sort out custody, a parenting schedule, and child support.
According to the New York Post, Henry has asked the court to grant her primary custody of the children, along with temporary and permanent safeguards and parameters. She has also claimed in filings that she has made most of the major decisions concerning the kids and has served as their primary caregiver. Herro, for his part, has asked the court to determine his child-support amount and to set a formal parenting schedule, and he has claimed he voluntarily paid Henry money since she gave birth.
The split, which the Post reports happened in September 2026, comes on the heels of Herro's relocation from Miami to Milwaukee following the blockbuster June 2026 trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat. That deal, detailed by The Ringer, saw the Heat send Herro along with Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, the No. 13 pick in the 2026 draft, a 2033 second-round pick, and a 2030 pick swap to Milwaukee, while the Bucks sent Bobby Portis back to Miami as part of the package. Per the Post, Herro was in Paris when he learned about the trade.
An Interstate Co-Parenting Puzzle
Herro's move to Wisconsin doesn't just uproot his own basketball life — it introduces a genuine interstate co-parenting wrinkle, since any custody order will still be adjudicated in Florida even as Herro now plays and lives in Milwaukee. Florida's family courts operate under a legal framework shaped by House Bill 1301, approved on June 27 and effective July 1, 2023, which created a rebuttable statutory presumption that equal 50/50 time-sharing between parents is in a child's best interest, according to the Florida Senate. That default standard sits in direct tension with Henry's request for primary custody, since Florida courts now start from a joint-custody baseline rather than a neutral evaluation.
According to Florida Courts, a Parenting Plan is required in all cases involving time-sharing with minor children, even when time-sharing is not in dispute. Florida Courts lists a Relocation/Long Distance Parenting Plan, Form Number 12.995(c), for cases involving long-distance time-sharing arrangements.
Money is also part of the equation. Florida Statutes Chapter 61 requires family courts to calculate child support using an Income Shares Model that weighs both parents' net monthly incomes, health insurance costs, and the exact number of overnight stays each parent gets per year, per the Florida Legislature. Herro's earnings give the court plenty to work with: he signed a four-year, $130 million extension with the Heat back in October 2022, with $120 million of that guaranteed, according to the Associated Press.
Cheating Allegations Surface Online
The breakup has spilled onto social media, where the Post reports Henry posted an allegation that Herro had cheated on her. In one post cited by the outlet and attributed to Yahoo, Henry wrote, “If you cheat on someone willing to do anything for you, you cheated yourself out of loyalty.” Herro has not addressed the cheating allegation publicly in the reporting reviewed for this story, though he did react to the trade itself in blunt terms, reportedly saying, “Back to the motherf—king crib, dog. Y'all did lost your motherf—king mind.”
Henry and Herro connected on social media during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and breakup rumors between the two first surfaced as early as 2022, per the Post's reporting. The Post also reports on the couple's relationship. Henry, a fitness model who founded the brand Velaura, had a brief relationship with Herro's now-Bucks teammate Kyle Kuzma between 2018 and 2019, according to Famous Birthdays.
From Wisconsin Backlash to a Homecoming Trade
There's a strange symmetry to Herro landing back in his home state. He starred at Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wisconsin, scoring more than 2,000 points in his high school career, earning a four-star ranking, and being named Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year. But when Herro decommitted from the University of Wisconsin in late 2017 to sign with Kentucky instead, he and his family faced severe local backlash in the Milwaukee and Greenfield communities, including egged vehicles, spray-painted property, and personal threats, according to Nation of Blue. He went on to play college basketball for John Calipari at Kentucky before the Heat selected him 13th overall in 2019.
Herro's NBA career has been decorated. He won the Sixth Man of the Year award for the 2021-22 season, becoming the first player in Miami Heat history to earn the honor, and he made his first career All-Star team in 2025 while also winning the NBA 3-Point Contest that year. His best statistical season came in 2024-25, when he averaged a career-high 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists over 77 games for the Heat.
This past season was rockier on the court. He still averaged 20.5 points per game last season while shooting 48 percent, and Hoodline previously noted his game for Miami against Detroit. He also faced the New York Knicks during his career, part of a career that has now taken a sharp turn both on the court in Milwaukee and in a Florida courtroom.
