Chase Center is getting another dose of elite women's basketball. Unrivaled, the three-on-three league co-founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, will stage a doubleheader in San Francisco on Jan. 11, 2027, with the first game tipping off at 7:30 p.m., bringing four of its eight teams to the Bay Area for back-to-back games broadcast on TNT, truTV and HBO Max.
The San Francisco date is part of a broader 2027 touring model for the league, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Unrivaled will simultaneously host its other four teams in a separate doubleheader in Detroit that same night, part of a stretch of road dates that also includes stops in Boston on Jan. 8, Houston on Feb. 12, Philadelphia on Feb. 15, and additional dates in New York on Jan. 22 and Minneapolis on Jan. 24. The league has not yet disclosed which teams or players will compete in San Francisco, though it did confirm that Golden State Valkyries players Veronica Burton, Gabby Williams, Kayla Thornton and Tiffany Hayes have committed to play in Unrivaled in 2027. Beyond that roster note, specific matchups for the Chase Center doubleheader remain to be finalized, per the same Chronicle report.
A League Built to Keep Stars Stateside
Unrivaled launched to give women's professional basketball players a way to earn offseason money without heading overseas, and the Chronicle's report lists Collier, Stewart, Aliyah Boston, Paige Bueckers, Skylar Diggins, Chelsea Gray, Rhyne Howard, Olivia Miles, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young among the WNBA players expected to compete in the league's third season. The financial pitch has been powerful: during its 2025 inaugural season, Unrivaled players reportedly earned at least $222,000 for an eight-week schedule, close to the WNBA's highest-paid player's 2024 salary, while also granting equity stakes to founding players, according to SportsPro.
That model has translated into real business momentum. Unrivaled generated over $27 million in revenue during its 2025 inaugural season and reached near break-even profitability, supported by a multi-year media rights deal with TNT Sports and $35 million raised across seed and Series A rounds, the outlet reports. The league staged all of its games in Miami in 2025, then held most of its 2026 games there as well while adding Philadelphia and New York stops — a touring expansion that is now growing further for 2027.
Proof the Road Games Can Draw a Crowd
Unrivaled's arena tour has already shown it can pack a house well outside its 850-seat Miami home court. The league's January 2026 stop in Philadelphia drew 21,490 spectators at Xfinity Mobile Arena, setting the all-time attendance record for a regular-season professional women's basketball game, Hoodline reported in its coverage of Unrivaled's Philadelphia return. That kind of turnout serves as a proof of concept for a bigger venue like Chase Center, where the games will feature Unrivaled's modified 70-by-50-foot court, an 18-second shot clock, three seven-minute quarters and an untimed fourth quarter decided by an 11-point target Elam Ending, according to DIRECTV Insider.
Valkyries Have Set the Stage in San Francisco
Unrivaled is walking into a market the Golden State Valkyries have already primed. Per the Chronicle's report, the Valkyries led the WNBA in attendance during their first two seasons in San Francisco, playing capacity crowds in all 44 regular-season home games and ranking among the league's leaders in merchandise sales — with CNBC estimating the franchise's valuation at $1 billion. That commercial trajectory tracks with figures Hoodline detailed in May, when the Valkyries' rapid rise from a $50 million expansion fee to Sportico's estimated $850 million valuation was outlined in the piece “Valkyries Turn Chase Center Into $850 Million WNBA Gold Mine.”
The team's on-court success has matched its business numbers. Golden State opened the 2026 playoffs against Dallas at Chase Center, with the first-round series moving to Texas before a possible Game 3 return to Chase Center on Friday, the Chronicle reports. That postseason berth made the Valkyries the first expansion franchise in WNBA history to reach the playoffs in each of its first two seasons, according to Axios.
A Bigger Stage Already Booked for 2027
The Unrivaled doubleheader adds to what is shaping up as a landmark year for San Francisco's basketball calendar. The WNBA announced in August that Chase Center and the Valkyries will host the 2027 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game on July 31, 2027 — San Francisco's first WNBA All-Star Game — according to Axios. Between the January Unrivaled tour stop and the summer All-Star Game, Chase Center is positioned as a national hub for women's professional basketball for the entirety of 2027.
