Brandon Vickers, 40, of Homestead, is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the Oct. 21, 2024 shooting near Franjo Park in Cutler Bay. Local10 News, citing the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office arrest report, reported that Vickers was arrested nearly two years after the incident and was being held at the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center as of Monday.
What the arrest report alleges
The shooting occurred at about 7:45 p.m. near 20151 SW 89th Ave., where authorities said neighbors confronted several people traveling in a vehicle. According to the arrest report, as described by Local10 News, two witnesses identified Vickers as a shooter and recorded video of the vehicle in which he allegedly left the area. Investigators also alleged that Vickers and others arrived in two stolen vehicles bearing unassigned license plates before shots were fired toward the victims. These are allegations in the arrest report, not findings at trial.
The shooting and its aftermath
Two people were found at a nearby gas station after the gunfire. Authorities said one had been wounded in the right thigh and the other in the right ankle; Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took both to Jackson South Medical Center. Authorities said the victims declined to cooperate with investigators. Jose Madrid also told Local10 News that 18 rounds struck his vehicle.
A 9U game was underway at Franjo Park when the shooting began. The Perrine Baseball and Softball Association later said in a fundraiser that the gunfire occurred near the park entrance during the fifth inning and left about 150 shell casings on the ground. The association sought money for security after the incident.
