Agustin Victor Ramirez and Guadalupe Ramirez now face a slate of felony charges tied to the Sept. 21 attack near West Cheyenne Avenue and North Buffalo Drive.
According to FOX5 Vegas, court records identify Agustin Victor Ramirez and Guadalupe Ramirez as the suspects, though police have not publicly detailed how the two are connected to the case or what relationship, if any, exists between them. Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Eric Goodman granted the warrants Monday morning, and both suspects are expected to be held without bail until their first court appearance if captured, the station reports.
The shooting happened at approximately 8:43 p.m. on Sept. 21 in a commercial parking lot near West Cheyenne Avenue and North Buffalo Drive, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which assigned the active investigation event number LLV260900082271. Surveillance Footage Points to a Deliberate Ambush
Metro Sheriff Kevin McMahill said in a media interview reported by FOX5 Vegas that surveillance footage showed the off-duty corrections officer was deliberately targeted, with the masked shooter circling back on an e-bike before opening fire. Police described the suspect in that footage as wearing a half-style helmet, a dark green jacket, and a face mask. The station's report also notes police released video showing the mask-wearing suspect firing on the officer before fleeing the area on an e-bike.
The wounded officer was rushed to a nearby hospital, underwent emergency surgery, and was stabilized, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The officer had not been identified at the time. LVMPD corrections officers are commissioned law enforcement personnel who staff the Clark County Detention Center, a facility housing more than 3,000 inmates and processing over 70,000 bookings annually, per the department; Metro employs nearly 800 corrections officers within its Detention Services Division. Police have not released a motive or said whether the attack was connected to the officer's duties at the jail.
Felony Charges Carry Steep Potential Prison Time
Agustin Ramirez and Guadalupe Ramirez face multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied structure, and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, per court records cited by FOX5 Vegas. Attempted-murder charges can involve different charging theories and case-specific considerations.
Conspiracy to commit murder under Nevada Revised Statute 199.480 is likewise a Category B felony, carrying two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000, and requires proving an agreement between two or more people to commit the underlying felony, according to Justia Law. Separately, discharging a firearm at or into an occupied building or structure is a Category B felony under Nevada Revised Statute 202.285, punishable by one to 10 years in prison and fines up to $5,000, and applies regardless of whether the bullet strikes its intended target, according to a legal explainer citing that same statute.
