The department faces a shortfall of more than 500 sworn officers, a gap that has pushed average Priority 1 emergency response times to 6 to 9 minutes, according to the Arizona Capitol Times.
The staffing gap has coincided with broader citywide improvements in violent crime statistics. Phoenix homicides dropped 32% in 2024 to 151 total incidents.
