Cincinnati's oversized heated tent on Fountain Square is coming back for round two, and this time it's opening its doors on Halloween night. Winterhaus, the glass-enclosed pop-up that turned downtown into a cold-weather gathering spot last winter, is set to kick off its second season with the HauntedHaus Halloween Party.
According to WLWT, Winterhaus is scheduled to open on Halloween night for the HauntedHaus Halloween Party, marking the start of its second run on the square. Officials plan to keep the tent open through St. Patrick's Day weekend of 2027, giving downtown Cincinnati nearly five months of programming inside the structure, per the station's report.
The venue itself is hard to miss. It's described as a heated, glass-enclosed, 65-by-65-foot tented retreat in the heart of downtown Cincinnati at Fountain Square, according to Downtown Cincinnati Inc. That footprint gives organizers room for daily events, a full bar, Cincinnati-centric shopping options, and space for everything from co-working to private events, according to Fountain Square's own site.
What's on the Winterhaus Calendar
Winterhaus isn't just a place to warm up between errands downtown. The lineup ranges from Euchre nights to drag bingo to paint-and-sip classes, per Fountain Square's event listings. That kind of programming turned the tent into a regular hangout during its debut season rather than a one-off holiday attraction.
The tent's return also lines up with some of downtown's biggest seasonal moments. The venue will host Duke Energy's Light Up the Square on Black Friday, along with New Year's festivities and holiday programming, the station's report notes. Last year, the Light Up the Square event ran from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Friday after Thanksgiving, according to FOX19.
A New Neighbor on the Ice
Winterhaus won't be the only cold-weather draw downtown this season. The UC Health Ice Rink presented by Fifth Third Bank has moved to Elm Street Plaza, located just two blocks away, according to Fountain Square's hours page. It's a shift from the rink's previous spot closer to the tent, giving visitors two separate stops within easy walking distance of each other.
Fountain Square's own pages aren't entirely consistent on how long the broader seasonal programming runs. One page describes Winterhaus as open from November through March, while another describes the square as a hub for festive fun from November through February — a discrepancy the available materials don't resolve.
Age Policy and Access
Winterhaus operates as a 21-plus venue, though minors may enter when accompanied by an adult, according to Fountain Square's hours page. That policy carries over from last season, when the tent first opened as part of a wider set of downtown holiday changes that also included a new ice rink and the Fountain of Lights, as WLWT reported at the time.
