Worlds of Fun is rolling out a packed fall calendar in Kansas City this year, headlined by Oktoberfest at the park's Europa section for the first time, alongside an expanded Halloween Haunt with new scare zones. The celebration kicks off Saturday, September 12, and runs on select dates through mid-October, while Halloween Haunt returns to the park on September 19.
According to KCTV, Oktoberfest will take place Saturday, September 12, and then on Sundays from September 20 through October 18, with the festivities set in the park's Europa section. The daytime, family-friendly Tricks and Treats event also returns for fall 2026, running every weekend starting September 19 and featuring trick-or-treating trails and Count Snooptacula's Costume Contest, per the same report.
A Founding-Era Tradition Comes Back
Oktoberfest has a history at Worlds of Fun — it was an annual fixture from the park's inaugural 1973 season through the mid-1990s, according to Worlds of Fun dot org. Each day of the 2026 celebration opens with a ceremonial Bavarian Keg Tapping Ceremony, followed by live polka music, traditional German dishes, and local Bavarian beers, according to a release covered by EIN News.
The park's roots run deep in Kansas City. Worlds of Fun originally opened on May 26, 1973, founded by Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt and business partner Jack Steadman with an initial $20 million investment themed around Jules Verne's novel Around the World in Eighty Days, per the Missouri Valley Special Collections. The park changed hands multiple times over the decades — Cedar Fair bought it in 1995, then merged with Six Flags in a $8 billion deal in July 2024, before Six Flags opted to sell off non-core regional parks this year.
New Scares Join Long-Running Haunt Lore
Halloween Haunt returns to Worlds of Fun on September 19 with two all-new scare zones, including Mr. Tickle's Sideshow Alley, alongside the park's existing haunted attractions and live shows, per the same release. The event will also feature new frights drawing on classic cemetery legends, along with the park's existing haunted attractions and live shows.
One of Halloween Haunt's longest-standing attractions, Zombie High, carries its own decades-old backstory. The fictional Cleaver High theme is part of the attraction's lore.
New Ownership Behind the Expanded Lineup
This fall's programming arrives amid a broader corporate shakeup. In March 2026, Kansas City-based real estate investment trust EPR Properties acquired Worlds of Fun and six other regional amusement parks from Six Flags Entertainment Corp. for $331 million, entering into a long-term lease with Enchanted Parks to handle day-to-day park operations — a deal Hoodline detailed in its report on Six Flags' HQ move to Texas.
Guests planning a visit should also be aware of the park's chaperone policy, which remains in full effect. Worlds of Fun requires all guests under age 16 to be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older with valid photo identification after 4 p.m., according to Enchanted Parks. The rule was strengthened after an April 2023 opening-weekend incident in which law enforcement had to disperse a massive fight involving nearly 150 unaccompanied teenagers, as reported by KCUR. Similar chaperone rules have since spread to other Enchanted Parks-operated venues, including at Six Flags St. Louis.
