Zona Rosa's Central Park fills up Saturday with pumpkins, bounce houses, and food trucks as the fifth annual Fall Fest returns to the Northland shopping district from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The free event includes 1,250 pumpkins available for decorating while supplies last, Lego building stations, and interactive activities from Science City, plus community partner booths and festive photo opportunities scattered throughout the park.
A Free Day of Fall Activities for Families
According to KMBC, the festival is free to attend and packs in a mix of hands-on fun for kids alongside grown-up perks like fall cocktails and beer. Food trucks including Ghost Kitchen, Bao Wowz, and Scimeca's Sausage will be parked around Central Park, giving families plenty of options between activities. A pop-up shopping market rounds out the day, drawing more than 60 local vendors and small businesses to the space.
That market is co-organized by Farfalla Events, which also partners with Zona Rosa on its summer festival and the annual Festa Italiana, bringing a rotating roster of small businesses to the shopping center throughout the year. Science City is contributing its own slice of the day, running hands-on science activities and tabletop STEM demonstrations between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The 100,000-square-foot interactive science center, housed inside Kansas City's historic Union Station, features more than 300 interactive exhibits across three floors.
Bring a Mac and Cheese Cup, Help a Hungry Kid
Attendees are encouraged to bring mac and cheese cups to support Feed Northland Kids, which uses the donations to help stock school food pantries. The nonprofit estimates that more than 12,000 children across Missouri's Clay and Platte counties currently experience food insecurity, meaning they lack reliable access to the affordable, nutritious food needed for growth and learning, according to Feed Northland Kids. Founded in 2010 as the Northland Childhood Hunger Initiative, the organization runs in-school pantries and Community Food Kit programs.
A Shopping Center in Transition
Fall Fest's return comes as Zona Rosa itself is in the middle of a makeover. Florida-based CTO Realty Growth bought the 768,000-square-foot open-air center for $63.3 million in September, as Hoodline previously reported on the sale, with plans for a multi-phase revitalization aimed at lifting occupancy from its current 67% level. A September 14, 2026, CTO Realty Growth announcement on GlobeNewswire says the 64-acre site draws roughly 5.5 million visits a year and sits just six miles from Kansas City International Airport, whose terminal recently underwent a $1.5 billion overhaul that increased regional traffic. The property was previously managed by Fort Worth-based Trademark Property Company.
Zona Rosa also recently closed the book on a long-running financial headache. In January 2026, Platte County formally withdrew from the financing, with parties agreeing the county had never defaulted; court rulings in the legal dispute tied to 2007 parking garage development bonds occurred in 2019 and 2020, according to the Nelson Home Group. The 2018 bond default cost the county its investment-grade credit rating, which remained at speculative grade. The shopping center first opened in May 2004, was developed by Steiner + Associates, and is described by CTO Realty Growth as a 64-acre center.
More Fall Events on the Calendar
Fall Fest kicks off a broader autumn lineup at the center. Zona Rosa's 2026 calendar also includes Adult Sips & Treats on October 16 and Beats & Broomsticks: Hocus Pocus in the Park on October 23, which will feature trick-or-treating at stores and an outdoor film screening, per Kansas City on the Cheap. Families looking to stretch their fall shopping can also check out the recently opened Petite Frame boutique, which Hoodline covered in a recent store opening at the center.
