The long-abandoned Aviator Hotel on South Lindbergh Boulevard in Green Park is headed for the wrecking ball after a new owner bought the property last month with plans to tear down at least part of the building. The hotel, located at 6921 S. Lindbergh Blvd., has sat empty and boarded up since it closed suddenly in 2025.

The sale closed on September 17, according to District 6 County Councilman Mike Archer, who told St. Louis Call Newspapers that the buyer is from Texas. The paper reported the hotel went into receivership, essentially a foreclosure, before the sale went through. Archer said he met with the developer this month to discuss plans for the property.

According to Archer, the new owner intends to at least partially demolish the hotel, though no official start date for demolition has been announced. He added that the owner has discussed the possibility of eventually developing the site for two retail stores, though those plans remain preliminary.

Months of Neglect on Lindbergh Boulevard

The hotel has stood empty since its abrupt closure last year, and the building has reportedly deteriorated over the past year as it sat vacant. Green Park aldermen have kept an eye on the property amid concerns about homeless individuals living on and around the site, the same report noted.

Green Park Ward 1 Alderman Carol Hamilton said the hotel property has since been cleaned up, boarded up, and had its furniture removed. She said she called the Aviator and was told she was awaiting word on a demolition timeline. During a visit to the site, Hamilton said she saw people removing tables from the building.

Permit Process Still Unclear

St. Louis County maintains a formal demolition permit application process for projects within its jurisdiction, but there is no indication yet that an application has been filed or a permit issued for the Aviator Hotel specifically. For now, residents and local officials are left waiting to see when, and how much of, the long-dormant hotel will actually come down.
