Andria’s Steakhouse reopened its basement lounge, the Rathskeller, in August, returning the space to use as a cocktail-and-small-plates venue. The restaurant says the lounge is open to the public, with no membership required, and encourages reservations on its Rathskeller page.
A room with roots in the restaurant’s early years
Sam and Muggs Andria opened the steakhouse on November 15, 1978, according to EdGlenToday. The basement originally served guests cocktails and hosted conversation, jazz and comedy, the restaurant says. It closed in the 1980s and remained beneath the dining room for decades, according to the restaurant’s account.
The lounge is part of a multigenerational family business. Max Kenison, a third-generation owner and chef, runs the restaurant with his wife, Rebecca Kenison. EdGlenToday reported that Max is the son of Larry and Maureen Kenison and described the family’s efforts to carry on the restaurant’s legacy.
The O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce marked the Rathskeller’s return with a ribbon cutting during its September Business After Hours event at Andria’s, according to the Chamber.
Reservations, drinks and small plates
For the entry process, Chad About Town reported that reservation holders receive an access code by email and can use it at a separate exterior entrance. That outlet also reported that the lounge’s bar came from St. Louis’ Fox Theatre and that its music setup honors Dr. A. Dennis “Denny” Sparger, who played in the original basement.
Chad About Town described a menu that includes a Vesper Martini, Sidecar, Harvey Wallbanger, Tom Collins and Godfather, along with small plates such as olive dip, tempura-battered green beans, whipped ricotta and mini sliders. These details come from that outlet’s report on the lounge.
The Rathskeller is at 6805 Old Collinsville Road in O’Fallon, Illinois. It is open from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Reservations can be made by calling 618-632-4866.
