A man was beaten and robbed at gunpoint near Greenbriar Mall in southwest Atlanta before the attackers drove off in his car, and police are still searching for whoever did it. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but the case remains unsolved nearly a week later, and investigators are now leaning on the public for help identifying the people responsible.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to a robbery call at 1:41 a.m. on October 23 near Greenbriar Parkway SW, close to the mall. Investigators say the armed suspects approached and physically assaulted the victim before robbing him of his cellphone and wallet, then stole his car and fled the scene.
The stolen vehicle is described as a black 2006 Chrysler 300 bearing Georgia license plate ZMP187. Police have not said whether the car has since been recovered, and so far no names or detailed physical descriptions of the suspects have been released.
Surveillance Video Released to Public
In hopes of generating leads, the Atlanta Police Department released surveillance video showing the armed suspects during the encounter. The footage is meant to help the public identify the attackers; police have disclosed that three armed suspects were involved, but have not released additional identifying details beyond what appears in the video.
Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta is now offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest in the case. Tipsters do not need to provide their name or any identifying information to qualify for the reward. Anyone with information can call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 404-577-TIPS (8477), text CSGA with information to 738477, submit a tip through the P3 Tips mobile app, or go through StopCrimeATL.org.
Part of a Mixed Picture on Metro Vehicle Crime
The attack near Greenbriar Mall comes even as overall vehicle theft numbers have been trending down across the region. Car thefts across Georgia fell nearly 28% in 2025, dropping from 23,900 reported thefts to 17,200, according to cbsnews.com. In the Atlanta metro area specifically, thefts dropped from about 16,200 in 2024 to roughly 11,600 last year. Georgia ranks 12th nationally in total vehicle thefts, but falls to 28th when measured by theft rate per 100,000 residents, per the same report.
Carjackings, which involve direct confrontation with a victim rather than theft of an unattended vehicle, have told a different story in cities studied elsewhere in the country. A sample of 10 large U.S. cities examined by the Council on Criminal Justice found the average reported carjacking rate climbed from 20.1 per 100,000 people in 2018 to 37.9 in 2023, with eight of those ten cities posting higher rates in 2023 than in 2018. The same analysis found firearms were involved in 56% of reported carjackings in 2018 and 62% in 2022, and that roughly 28% of carjackings resulted in victim injury, including death.
No arrests have been announced in the Greenbriar Mall case as of publication, and police have not indicated whether the suspects remain in the Atlanta area. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta rather than approach the suspects directly.
