A DIY haunted labyrinth built from salvaged electronics and forgotten B-movie scraps is taking shape inside Yerba Buena Center for the Arts this Halloween season, as the artist-driven event known as The Haunt returns to San Francisco for a second year. The gathering mixes art installations, tarot readings, drinks and dancing into a sprawling, maze-filled event spanning three nights at the downtown arts venue.
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Bat Witch Ghost present the 2026 edition, according to YBCA, which describes attendees building and wandering a spooky labyrinth surrounded by a bar, maker stations and a dance floor. The organization says the event spans a 6,000-square-foot performance space where guests can check out artistic installations, sit for tarot readings, and dance, drink and mingle. The venue sits at 701 Mission Street in San Francisco.
This year's theme is Techno-Fantasy, with YBCA noting the installations draw on discarded electronics, salvaged materials and forgotten B-movies for inspiration. Additional activations include tarot readers and psychics, a DIY costume-enhancement station and local DJs curated by Lower Grand Radio, per the same YBCA account.
An Artist's Vision Behind the Mask
The event is co-presented by Bat Witch Ghost, a San Francisco arts organization founded by artist Aaron Wojack, YBCA says in its announcement of its 2026 season of exhibitions and programs. Wojack discussed the upcoming event on KTVU's Mornings on 2, where the station reported that The Haunt is returning to take over Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, according to KTVU. KTVU's report frames the event as happening around Halloween weekend.
On its Substack, Bat Witch Ghost said the event's footprint is bigger this year and the space is weirder, building on last year's debut, when more than 1,100 people walked through the Labyrinth, according to Bat Witch Ghost. YBCA separately describes the event as a grassroots haunted house that gathers local artists, tarot readers, DJs and videomakers under one roof.
