Austell police say a shooting investigation early Saturday led officers to a residence where a search turned up a firearm believed to be tied to the shooting and more than 300 grams of suspected cocaine. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and took a woman into custody at the scene, and investigators say the two are husband and wife.
According to crimewatch.net, Austell Police Department Team 4 officers responded at approximately 1 a.m. on Oct. 31 to a report of a person shot. Officers located the man with the gunshot wound and took a female suspect into custody at the scene, and investigators determined the victim and suspect are husband and wife, per that same report. The outlet also states that information gathered during the investigation led officers to obtain and execute a search warrant at the residence, where they recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting along with more than 300 grams of suspected cocaine.
The crimewatch.net account adds that the victim was transported to a hospital with injuries reported as non-life-threatening. That detail conflicts with a separate account from FOX 5 Atlanta, which reported that a person found with a gunshot wound was taken to the hospital, where they later died. FOX 5's report also places the incident differently, saying officers responded to a home in the 4000 block of Brightmore Drive just before 6:30 a.m. — hours later than the roughly 1 a.m. response time described in the other account. The available reporting does not reconcile these differences in timing, location details or the victim's condition.
What Investigators Have Not Released
Neither account identifies the woman taken into custody or specifies what charges, if any, she faces. FOX 5 Atlanta's report states plainly that police have not identified the alleged shooter or revealed the charges against them. Atlanta News First similarly reported that police had not disclosed the suspect's identity, her charges, or exactly where in Austell the shooting took place, and said it had reached out to the department for more details on a story it described as still developing.
This is not the first time an Austell residence has been the scene of a shooting involving a man and woman. In a separate case from April 2025, a woman identified as 19-year-old Faith Lewis died at the scene of a shooting, and a 24-year-old man was referred to by police as the male suspect, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. That incident is unrelated to Saturday's case but underscores that domestic violence shootings have surfaced more than once in the Cobb County suburb.
Investigation Continues
No further details on the drug seizure's connection to the shooting, or on the suspect's legal status, have been made public. Given the conflicting accounts of the shooting's outcome and location, residents may have to wait for police to issue a clearer, consolidated update on the case.
