A homeowner near Battle Ground was inside her house when a man kicked in the back door after breaking into her shed and taking fishing gear. She yelled for him to leave, and he dropped what he was carrying and bolted.
Doorbell Camera Captures the Getaway
According to the Clark County Sheriff's Office, the burglary happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The man is accused of breaking into the shed first and stealing fishing gear before turning his attention to the home itself, kicking in the back door while the homeowner was inside. Startled by her shouts, he dropped several of the stolen items and ran off, deputies said in the post.
The getaway didn't end there. A neighbor's doorbell camera reportedly captured the man showing up at a nearby home shortly afterward, asking for a ride to Yacolt. That neighbor turned him down, but per the sheriff's office post, the man identified himself as Derek before eventually finding someone else willing to help. Someone gave him a lift.
