Bay FC is less than three months from moving into a new performance center on Treasure Island, a privately funded training home the club says will finally give its players the kind of space other NWSL teams have long enjoyed. The facility includes a gym, a kitchen and a lap pool, and the club is targeting a January opening ahead of the 2027 season.
ABC7 Eyewitness News toured the facility as construction nears its finish, according to ABC7 News. The visit comes as Bay FC continues to share practice space with San Jose State, an arrangement the club has relied on since before its inaugural season while it searched for a permanent facility, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Co-founder Leslie Osborne, one of the former U.S. Women's National Team players who helped launch the club alongside Brandi Chastain, Danielle Slaton and Aly Wagner, said the players deserve more and that the new center will support entertaining soccer. She added that the players will produce incredibly entertaining soccer with the facility behind them. Another Bay FC founder's reaction upon seeing the space, per the station's report, was simple: “Wow! Wowzers, just like the good ol' days.”
A Milestone Beam, A Countdown to Opening
The Treasure Island project hit a major construction milestone over the summer when Bay FC marked the topping out of the building, the point at which the final beam of its framework is placed, according to NBC Bay Area. Bay FC's own account of the milestone says the final structural beam went up on June 25, 2026. NBC Bay Area has reported that the center is expected to become the first women-specific training facility for a professional sports team in the Bay Area.
Exactly when the doors open to players full-time remains somewhat murky in the public record. NBC Bay Area has reported the facility is scheduled to open early in 2027, in time for the start of that season, while Sports Business Journal previously reported the 8.5-acre site was slated to open in late 2026 ahead of the 2027 NWSL campaign. ABC7's on-the-ground reporting points to a January target.
What's Inside the New Home
The site occupies 8.5 acres of the 40 acres on Treasure Island designated for sports use, and the ground-breaking ceremony in September 2025 brought together Bay FC and city officials to launch what the club called a state-of-the-art Sports Performance Center, per Bay FC's own release. Beyond the gym, kitchen and lap pool that ABC7 saw on its tour, earlier permit filings described a broader indoor program: a weight room, medical and wellness center, dining room, laundry, locker rooms, lounges, meeting areas, event space and offices for athletic staff, according to San Francisco YIMBY.
Reports have differed on the overall size of the athletic building itself. San Francisco YIMBY's permit reporting described a 25,000-square-foot athletic facility next to three full soccer fields, while CBS News reported the plans called for a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse alongside three practice fields. Bay FC's own description of the project emphasizes three training fields and dedicated facilities for players, coaches and football operations staff, with the fields themselves slated to be added later this fall.
Built for Women, With City Backing
Bay FC has described the project as built and created specifically for women athletes, calling it one of only a handful of purpose-built training facilities for women's sports nationwide. The center is being developed in partnership with the City and County of San Francisco and the Treasure Island Development Authority, with Olson Kundig serving as architect of record and Devcon Construction leading the build. City officials had already cleared a legal path for the project in December 2024, when a lease agreement authorized by Mayor Breed's signature paved the way for construction of a training complex meant to serve as the club's home for players and staff, according to San Francisco.gov.
The project also carries weight for Treasure Island itself, which has been undergoing redevelopment in recent years; the facility has been described as the latest boost to a historically underserved area, according to Axios. Bay FC has said the center is also meant to host soccer clinics, community events and other activities connecting athletes with fans across the Bay Area.
How It Stacks Up Around the League
Bay FC's build fits a broader pattern of NWSL clubs racing to build dedicated infrastructure. Angel City announced its own performance center on a nine-acre California Lutheran University site with roughly 50,000 square feet of indoor space, including a 5,400-square-foot gym and a hydrotherapy area with hot and cold plunge pools and saunas, calling it the largest facility dedicated solely to an NWSL club, according to Angel City FC. When Bay FC was still searching for a training home ahead of its 2024 debut, the Kansas City Current was already finishing an 11,500-seat stadium, the Chronicle reported at the time — a reminder of how far other clubs had moved while Bay FC awaited its own permanent base.
