Memphis is starting Tuesday under clear skies near 72 degrees, but the brief taste of fall will not last. Sunshine will push temperatures into the low 90s, with the heat index reaching around 100 before a cooler pattern finally arrives late this week.
Heat Builds Through Tuesday
Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 93 degrees and southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph. The National Weather Service in Memphis says heat-index values could reach 100, so afternoon errands, outdoor work and exercise will be more taxing than the clear sky suggests.
The forecast lists no active watches or warnings, but residents should still take the usual heat precautions: drink water, seek shade and avoid leaving children or pets in parked vehicles. Tuesday night stays mostly clear, with a low around 74.
Storm Chance Arrives Wednesday
Wednesday begins mostly sunny and nearly as hot, with a high near 92, before a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m. Rainfall should generally stay light, with new amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch possible, but outdoor plans may need a backup.
A few showers or storms could linger into Wednesday evening, though the overall setup does not look like a washout. Thursday then returns to sunny and hot conditions, with a high near 91 and only a minimal rain chance.
Friday Brings The Big Temperature Drop
The real reset arrives Friday, when the high falls to about 74 degrees behind a cold front. North winds of 10 to 20 mph could gust as high as 30 mph, making the change feel even sharper after several days of low-90s heat.
Saturday looks sunny and cooler with a high near 68, followed by a low around 47 Saturday night. Sunday rebounds to a sunny 76 degrees, and Monday should remain mostly sunny with a high near 79.
