State Route 190 in Big Cottonwood Canyon reopened just before 2 a.m. Monday after flooding and debris forced hours-long closures, KUTV reported. UDOT restricted uphill traffic and turned vehicles around at the canyon entrance while crews worked near Storm Mountain, according to KUTV.

Debris blocked a culvert near milepost 4.25, backing up water onto the road. UDOT crews responded to remove tons of debris, Gephardt Daily reported. Remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel brought heavy rain to the Wasatch Front, and UDOT warned that more rain and weather-related delays were possible, according to Gephardt Daily and KUTV.

Earlier that Sunday, a man was injured when a boulder trapped his leg near the Storm Mountain picnic area. KSL reported, based on interviews with Rick and Lori Roach and Unified Fire Authority spokesperson Patrick Costin, that the Oklahoma couple had stopped nearby to take photos. Rick Roach and another person tried to help, while Lori Roach called 911.

KSL reported that a Unified Fire Authority crew arrived in under five minutes and used heavy machinery to move the boulder. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The rescue occurred roughly three hours before flooding affected the nearby area, according to KSL.
