Boston woke Wednesday to 46-degree air, a mostly cloudy sky, and the kind of northeast breeze that makes the season feel less theoretical. The high should reach only about 53 degrees, with wind speeds around 16 to 20 mph and a largely dry day in the city.
Wind Is The Main Boston Story
The offshore nor’easter is staying far enough away to spare most of southern New England from a soaking, but it is still driving gusty conditions. The National Weather Service Boston/Norton office says the greatest rain risk is on Cape Cod and the Islands, while gusts could reach 20 to 30 mph inland and 30 to 40 mph along the eastern Massachusetts coast. This latest update extends the marine headlines beyond the forecast covered in Hoodline’s earlier Boston weather report.
Boaters Face The Roughest Conditions
For anyone heading onto the water, conditions are the serious part of this system. Gale warnings remain in effect over ocean waters through Thursday evening, and a gale watch covers parts of the northeastern coastal waters from Thursday evening, October 22, into early Friday afternoon, October 23, 2026; seas could approach 15 feet in the outer waters. East- and northeast-facing beaches may also see erosion, so shoreline plans should stay flexible.
Sunny Stretch Builds Into Weekend
Thursday should turn mostly sunny with a high near 60, followed by a cooler, sunny Friday near 52. Saturday morning lows could range from the upper 20s to middle 30s in portions of the interior, with a brief patch of frost before sunshine and a high near 56.
Temperatures should moderate after that chilly start, with generally quiet weather through Sunday and Monday. For Boston residents, the practical forecast is simple: layer up for the next two mornings, secure loose outdoor items against the wind, and save the lighter weekend plans for after the frost lifts.
