Café Paradise is operating at 3221 Ivanhoe Avenue in Lindenwood Park, in the same building as The Tree Frog music room, according to KSDK. A City of St. Louis calendar entry lists a hearing for the business’s 22% drink and 22% Sunday liquor licenses, as well as its summer garden and sidewalk café applications, under the standard signature process: the city listing.
The café’s neighborhood setting
The City of St. Louis describes Lindenwood Park as a predominantly single-family residential community, with more than two-thirds of its housing stock made up of single-family homes. The city also identifies Ivanhoe as one of the neighborhood’s commercial nodes, placing the café on a commercial street within a largely residential area, according to the City of St. Louis neighborhood overview.
Hours and menu
St. Louis Magazine reports that the café is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The magazine describes a menu that spans drip and cold-brew coffee, tea and pastries, as well as wine, beer and snacks including tinned fish, olives, nuts and potato chips.
The magazine also reports that the All Day Sandwich combines Volpi salami, cheese and salted butter with either a croissant or a demi-baguette from Union Loafers, depending on the time of day. Union Loafers supplies sourdough and baguettes that the café serves with salted butter.
Seating, provisions and The Tree Frog
St. Louis Magazine describes the interior as furnished with marble-topped bistro tables, wooden tables and vintage chairs. The café also has sidewalk tables and a backyard seating area; the magazine reports that owners Stephen Lindemann and Susannah Haddad plan to add more outdoor seating. The magazine’s account says the cold case carries drinks, charcuterie, dairy, hummus and snacks, while nearby shelves hold wine, beer, pantry items and household goods.
According to St. Louis Magazine, the wine selection includes sparkling wine, rosé, three white wines and three red wines. The reported beer choices include Czech and German selections, Peroni and Miller High Life, along with cider.
St. Louis Magazine reports that Lindemann and Haddad worked with Russell Jaffee, who runs The Tree Frog, on the music room’s build-out and branding. The three share day-to-day responsibilities for the space, where The Tree Frog continues to host music and other events, according to the magazine.
The owners
St. Louis Magazine reports that Lindemann grew up in St. Louis Hills and has worked in hospitality, including with restaurants and boutique hotels. Haddad, who is from Austin, Texas, has worked in product curation for hotels. The two founded the design company SS&Co. and moved to Lindenwood Park from west Texas, the magazine reports.
