A bagel shop that built its name on farmers-market tables in Washington, D.C. is opening its second Chicago location on Monday, October 26, at 2956 North Sheffield Avenue in Lakeview. Call Your Mother Deli will bring its hybrid New York- and Montreal-style bagels, sandwiches and catering menu to the neighborhood, just months after debuting in Wicker Park.

From DC Farmers Markets to a Second Chicago Storefront

The chain was founded by Andrew Dana and Chef Daniela Moreira in 2018, growing from a single farmers-market stand in D.C. into a full neighborhood bagel shop, according to Chicago Food Magazine. That growth eventually carried the brand into Chicago earlier in 2026, when it opened its first local shop in Wicker Park. The Lakeview location marks the company's second Chicago storefront in less than a year.

Call Your Mother's Wicker Park debut opened at 1615 N. Damen Ave. on May 19, according to Block Club Chicago, and that outlet reported the shop joined a growing cluster of bagel spots already established in the Wicker Park-Bucktown area. The Lakeview location will add another Call Your Mother shop to the neighborhood.

What's on the Bagel Menu

The signature bagels blend New York- and Montreal-style characteristics, with a boiled exterior and honey sweetness. They're boiled in honey water, with honey in the dough contributing to their sweetness; the Wicker Park shop bakes its bagels in-house.

One standout sandwich, the Jetski, loads brisket, pastrami, sofrito, jalapeño, cheddar and American cheese onto a cheddar bagel. The Wicker Park shop already offers nine different bagel flavors and five schmears alongside breakfast and lunch sandwiches, according to NBC Chicago.

Beyond bagels, the Lakeview shop will carry housemade babka muffins and cookies, including a seasonal Pumpkin Black & White cookie topped with Biscoff crumblies. The chain's menu also includes coffee and matcha.

Catering and a New Neighborhood Mural

Call Your Mother Lakeview will also offer everyday and holiday catering, including bagel and schmear spreads, smoked salmon platters and assorted bagel sandwich boxes. The shop's exterior got a local touch, too: the team recruited muralist Kevin Garbacz to paint the deli's signature telephone wires on the Lakeview storefront, Chicago Food Magazine reports.

The new location will run from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends — the same hours already in place at the Wicker Park shop, which operates 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, per Block Club Chicago.

A Chain Built on Steady Expansion

Chicago is just the latest stop for a company that has steadily expanded beyond the D.C. area. Call Your Mother opened its first location outside of D.C. in Denver in May 2023, and by November of that year had grown to 15 locations across the D.C. and Denver metro areas, according to Wikipedia. The company continued expanding beyond the D.C. area. Eater Chicago also noted the brand expanded to several more spots across the East Coast and Denver as it grew from its D.C. roots.

In Wicker Park, Call Your Mother now shares the neighborhood's bagel scene with competitors like Bro Bagel, a New York-style shop that Piece Pizzeria has operated next door to its restaurant since 2014, NBC Chicago reported. Whether Lakeview sees a similar bagel rivalry remains to be seen, but for now, the Sheffield Avenue shop opens Monday as Call Your Mother's newest entry into the Chicago market.
