A child was found safe in Everett on Monday after a car was stolen out of Lynn with the child still inside, prompting a brief police chase before officers safely stopped the vehicle and took the driver into custody. The child was being taken to the hospital for evaluation, and police said the youngster was okay.
According to WHDH, the vehicle was reported stolen at approximately 5 p.m. with the child inside. Everett police were able to track the car to the area of Revere Beach Parkway at Vale Street, the station reported. After a brief chase, officers safely stopped the vehicle, and the driver was taken into custody without incident, per the same report.
Child Taken to Mass General for Evaluation
Police said the child was okay and was being taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to be checked out, the station's report noted. The child's parents had been notified and were expected to reunite with their child at the hospital, according to the report. CBS News also covered the incident, with WBZ-TV's Louisa Moller reporting on the recovery of the child.
Lynn police had put out an alert about the theft, according to NBC Boston, which helped lead to the vehicle's recovery across city lines in Everett.
Part of a Troubling Pattern of Thefts With Children Inside
Monday's incident echoes a similar case in Boston last month, when a car theft and kidnapping near the intersection of Crawford and Warren streets left a child inside a stolen vehicle at about 9:16 p.m. NBC Boston reported that the child was found safe along with the vehicle more than a mile away, at the intersection of Draper and Bentham streets. A separate case in Philadelphia's East Falls neighborhood in August involved a one-year-old boy reported safe after his mother's car was stolen while he was in the backseat, according to 6abc Philadelphia.
Statewide vehicle theft numbers have moved in different directions depending on the source. The Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security reported 6,491 motor vehicle thefts in 2025, a 14% decrease from the 7,540 reported in 2024, according to WWLP. No additional details about the driver, the vehicle, or the circumstances of the theft in Lynn were released by police.
