A Channahon woman is facing criminal charges after police say she struck a family member with a folding chair roughly 10 times inside their home, leaving him bloodied and in need of hospital care. Nicole Petropulos, 48, was arrested Tuesday night, September 29, and charged with two counts of domestic battery and one count of interfering with the reporting of domestic violence following the alleged attack.
According to Patch, Channahon Police officers were dispatched at 8:19 p.m. to the 22600 block of South Donna Avenue for a domestic battery in progress. Prosecutors allege Petropulos used a folding chair to strike the man inside their home 10 times, leaving him bloodied and needing hospitalization, per the same outlet's reporting.
The man told officers he could not feel his left arm and was experiencing head and neck pain after the attack, the station's report states. He said he had eight alcoholic beverages and was sitting in his chair watching the Chicago White Sox game when the incident occurred, and he described the incident to police as unprovoked.
Children Repeatedly Called 911 During the Attack
The couple's children were present in the house during the incident and tried calling 911 repeatedly.
Officers who responded found the man lying on the floor and spoke with a teenager and a neighbor at the scene, according to a report from 97x. That report also states a neighbor restrained Petropulos until police arrived, an account attributed to the 911 call. Officers photographed the folding chair, which had blood on it, as documented by Patch.
Woman Told Police She Had Been Binge Drinking
Petropulos told officers she had been binge drinking and said the victim had made her mad and she snapped, according to 97x's reporting. The outlet also reported that she expressed concern about the wellbeing of her dogs. Police said Petropulos interfered with the 911 emergency call made to report the incident, according to Patch.
The alleged attack came the same night the Chicago White Sox won their game against the Houston Astros 7-3, per 97x.
Judge Orders Sobriety as Case Proceeds
A judge rejected prosecutors' request to deny Petropulos pretrial release. As a condition of her release, she was ordered to maintain absolute sobriety from alcohol.
Petropulos faces two counts of domestic battery and one count of interfering with the reporting of domestic violence as the case moves forward.
