A Highway 9 chase in Chester County on Monday, December 29, involved Dawson Gainey.

According to the Chester County Sheriff's Office, deputies were conducting a narcotics investigation when they attempted to pull over a vehicle on Highway 9.

Stop Sticks and a Scramble Into the Woods

Deputies deployed stop sticks that deflated the vehicle's front tires, according to the sheriff's office's account. Both occupants then fled on foot after leaving the vehicle, and the sheriff's office said Jones threw evidence out of the vehicle during the pursuit and pointed a firearm at the pursuing deputies before he was ultimately taken into custody in a wooded area.

A sheriff's office drone team and a K9 tracking team searched for Clinton, but deputies were unable to locate him, per the same account. Investigators later recovered a handgun in the wooded area where Jones was found, and the sheriff's office searched the suspect's vehicle, seizing approximately 29 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Charges Pile Up as Investigation Continues

Chester County Sheriff's deputies charged Jones with trafficking methamphetamine between 28 and 100 grams as a second offense, possession of cocaine, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon. The sheriff's office said the investigation remains active and ongoing and may result in additional charges.

A January 2024 Jail Log Entry

A January 7, 2024, jail-log entry listed a Lamon Maurice Jones, 20, as charged with trafficking in fentanyl. That entry is separate from the Highway 9 chase involving Dawson Gainey.

Other Chester County pursuits have also involved drug-related charges. An August 31 chase into Great Falls that Hoodline previously reported also ended with stop sticks and felony trafficking charges, while a pursuit covered in a Herald report originally published August 27, 2019, reportedly reached speeds near 90 mph before deputies recovered meth and cocaine from three suspects.
