For seasonal perspective, NBC Chicago, citing the National Weather Service, places the usual first-freeze window for Chicago and the immediate suburbs between Oct. 27 and Nov. 5. That typical window does not mean freezing temperatures are forecast this week. In a separate Chicago-area forecast from Oct. 6, 2022, the WGN-TV Weather Team described temperatures climbing into the lower 70s before a cold front, then falling after it passed; that was a past forecast, not a prediction for this weekend.
