A homeowner came home Wednesday afternoon to a nightmare: his 22-year-old son and a 22-year-old woman both shot inside an East Bexar County house near Cibolo. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man was rushed to a hospital in grave condition after deputies were called to the 7600 block of Overview Place near Old Seguin Road around 4:30 p.m.
According to KSAT, the homeowner discovered his son and the woman with gunshot wounds after arriving home and called for help. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man was taken to the hospital in grave condition. Separately, as reported by WOAI, deputies were called around 4:30 p.m. to a reported shooting in progress near the corner of Overview Place and Brucks Drive in an East Bexar County neighborhood in Cibolo.
Preliminary Word Points to Murder-Suicide
KSAT's headline described the case as an attempted murder-suicide. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the man was hospitalized in grave condition. Preliminary information suggests the man shot the woman before turning the gun on himself, per the same account, which cited Sheriff Javier Salazar.
The two were reportedly in a relationship, and the woman was said to be visiting from college.
Developing Story
No identities, a confirmed motive, the man's eventual medical outcome, or any charges have been made public as of Wednesday night.
Part of a Grim Pattern in Unincorporated Bexar County
The shooting lands amid a sharp rise in homicides across unincorporated Bexar County this year. By mid-September, the county had already recorded 18 homicides, surpassing the 15 tallied during all of 2025, according to Texas Public Radio. Sheriff Salazar told the outlet that half of those cases were domestic-violence-related and half were murder-suicides, and that the county consistently has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in Texas.
The Overview Place shooting is the second deadly shooting investigated by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office in east Bexar County in less than a week. On October 10, deputies investigated a shooting outside a hookah lounge in which one man was shot multiple times in the upper body, neck and head, while another was shot twice in the upper body and taken to a hospital in alert condition, KSAT reported.
