Copper Blues Rock Pub & Kitchen throws open its doors at The Mall at Wellington Green this Friday and Saturday, officially returning to Palm Beach County more than three years after its original CityPlace location was bulldozed to make way for office towers. The grand opening, set for October 16 and 17, 2026, marks the brand's formal comeback in a venue with capacity for up to 275 guests, including bar and outdoor seating, on the mall's upper level.
The new spot does double duty as the official bar and restaurant for the adjacent Palm Beach Improv, while still welcoming independent diners and live-music fans on their own, according to citybiz. Copper Blues and the comedy club together occupy a combined 13,800 square feet in the mall's southeast corner, as reported by Stet News.
The pairing is not accidental. Both venues were forced out of their original downtown digs in 2023: the AMC theater on their CityPlace block closed in May, and the buildings, including those housing Copper Blues and Palm Beach Improv, were demolished four months later to make way for office towers, according to background compiled on Wikipedia. The two entertainment brands are now neighbors in suburban Wellington.
A Staggered Rollout Begins With Comedy
Palm Beach Improv got there first, opening on September 4, 2026, in an 11,000-square-foot space and launching a fall lineup of more than 40 comedy shows, the station's report from Stet News noted. At its former downtown location, the comedy club was drawing an estimated 1,200 to 2,000 visitors a week, per the same account.
Copper Blues will bring its rock pub and restaurant concept to Wellington Green, adding another dining and live-music option to the mall.
Executives Point to a Familiar Formula
Copper Blues co-founder Robby Day described the Wellington launch as building on a proven combination of great food, live music, and entertainment, per citybiz. The company operates its live rock pub concept across multiple states.
Venue operator Chris Carbo pointed to practical advantages in the move away from downtown, noting that free parking and enclosed, air-conditioned queuing at Wellington Green eliminated the paid parking and open-air layouts that created friction for customers downtown, according to a report from Premiere Realty, LLC. For a late-night crowd weighing where to spend a Friday night, that kind of convenience can matter as much as the drink menu.
Mall Owner Leans Into Entertainment
The Copper Blues opening fits into a larger strategy from mall manager Spinoso Real Estate Group, which is reworking the 1.2-million-square-foot Mall at Wellington Green into more of an entertainment district. The company has expanded space for Arcade Time to 13,000 square feet and added Kids Empire in 2026, according to Breakers West Properties. It is the latest sign that enclosed suburban malls are shifting away from traditional retail anchors toward experiential tenants that can draw repeat visits.
That shift extends beyond entertainment tenants. Wellington village officials received a proposal in March 2026 from Bainbridge Companies to demolish the mall's vacant Nordstrom building, closed since 2019, and redevelop the 18.4-acre parcel into 620 residential apartments, as Hoodline previously reported. More rooftops nearby could mean more foot traffic for new dining and entertainment tenants like Copper Blues.
What's Rising on the Old CityPlace Block
What's Rising on the Old CityPlace Block Back downtown, CityPlace is slated for redevelopment with two office towers.
Whether Wellington's suburban audience will embrace late-night weekend hours remains an open question, as does how well the mall's infrastructure can support a full nightlife district rather than a handful of standalone tenants. For now, Copper Blues and Palm Beach Improv are betting that free parking, air conditioning, and a built-in comedy crowd will be enough to make Wellington Green the brand's new home base.
