Vicky Bakery is planning a new Pompano Beach location at 1154 N. Federal Highway, where the longtime Cuban bakery chain already has the storefront listed as “Baking Soon.” Franchisee Yamile Hernandez, who already runs the brand's Boca Raton shop, is preparing the new spot and has said she hopes to have it open by late November 2026.
A Second Shop for a Familiar Face
According to Business Debut, Hernandez told the outlet in a phone interview that she's targeting the end of November 2026 to open the doors in Pompano Beach, which would mark her second Vicky Bakery location after she took over the Boca Raton shop in 2023. That earlier store, which Hernandez owns and operates off Lyons Road between Yamato and Glades, debuted in January 2024, as Boca Magazine reported at the time. Not every outlet is convinced a date has been locked in, however: What Now reported that an opening date for the Pompano Beach location had not yet been announced, leaving the timeline somewhat unsettled even as signage goes up.
Hernandez grew up in Miami-Dade County and frequented Vicky Bakery regularly before moving farther north, according to the same Business Debut report. She has said she missed the bakery once she relocated, a personal connection that the outlet describes as part of what drew her to take on a second franchise location.
What's on the Menu
The Pompano Beach shop is expected to span 1,630 square feet with both indoor seating and takeout, per Business Debut's reporting. The menu is slated to include traditional Cuban pastries, Cuban breads, Cuban sandwiches, desserts, all-day breakfast, bowls and catering. Hernandez has said ham croquetas are a top-selling item at the bakery, and the chain is also known for its Cuban coffee and iced coffee.
Vicky Bakery is known more broadly for pastelitos, croquetas, empanadas, cakes and Cuban coffee, all made using recipes passed down through the Cao family, according to What Now. The bakery was founded in 1972 by Antonio and Gelasia Cao, and the company's own site, vickybakery.com, says it remains a family business today.
A Growing Footprint Across South Florida
The new location would add to a cluster of nearby shops — What Now notes Vicky Bakery already operates in Plantation, Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood, where the chain is also bringing a roughly 2,200-square-foot shop to Oakwood Plaza at 3501 Oakwood Boulevard, with no opening date set there either. Farther south, a Key Largo shop was described by Keys Weekly as the chain's 30th Florida location, notable also as the first to include the family's full-service bar concept, Bar Victor — though Vicky Bakery's own website separately states the brand has grown to 25 locations in Florida, so the exact count depends on which source you ask.
The bakery has been expanding steadily for years. Back in 2022, the company signed multiple new franchise agreements to develop nearly a dozen locations in the years that followed, opening shops in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Homestead and Coral Springs that same year, according to vickybakery.com. The following year brought plans for Palm Beach, Orlando and the Jackson Health District near Downtown Miami, and the Treasure Coast got its own outpost plan too, with a Port St. Lucie location at 1234 SW Gatlin Boulevard slated for summer 2025, per Hometown News Treasure Coast. The company describes the push as record-setting growth across South Florida and Central Florida, with plans to continue expanding into Palm Beach, Southwest Florida and Orlando.
For now, Pompano Beach residents will have to watch the storefront for signs of progress. Whether the shop opens by late November as Hernandez hopes, or on a later timeline, the arrival would give the area another spot for Cuban pastries, croquetas and coffee without the drive to Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood.
